Our commitment to inclusive practices means we actively seek to understand and accommodate the unique needs of individuals with disabilities. Wherever possible, we will make necessary adjustments to our work environment across recruitment processes, onboarding, inductions and throughout the employment journey with us, to ensure that all employees have the support and resources they need to succeed. Ā
By embracing diversity and promoting accessibility, we aim to create a welcoming and empowering space for everyone.Ā
Ā
Inclusive formats of NetballĀ
Walking NetballāÆis a modified version of the traditional game that is fully inclusive allowing anyone to participate regardless of their age, fitness level, ability or previous netball experience. Ā
As the name implies, Walking Netball is a slower version of netball performed at a walking pace. Ā
Walking Netball has a strong emphasis on getting people to participate in an enjoyable, safe environment rather than focusing on the competitive aspect. Ā
Walking Netball provides a fun, safe approach to be active and increase fitness levels with minimal risk of injury.Ā
Ā
Marie Little Shield Ā
The Marie Little Shield is an annual tournament that provides women with an intellectual disability the chance to compete at a national level.Ā
Ā
Marie Little OAM was the founder of Sport Inclusion Australia (formerly known as AUSRAPID) in 1986 and dedicated her working life to improve the lives of people with an intellectual disability, using the medium of sport. Renaming the event in her name was an honour of her work within the netball community.Ā
The inaugural Marie Little OAM Shield began in 2013 with three teams contesting the title. In 2016, Western Australia and Queensland were invited to enter teams into the competition. In 2024 Tasmania made their Marie Little Shield debut, which meant the Netball Australiaās Marie Little Shield tournament hit a milestone event first, of featuring teams from every state and territory to compete in the national all-abilities competition. Ā
Netball Australia CEO Stacey West reflected on the significance of the national all-abilities event. Ā
āThe Marie Little Shield plays such an important role for the development and growth of every competing player. It highlights netballās touch point to all who take part in the event including coaches, officials, administrators and the supporters who come out to cheer on our national participants.āĀ
