About Lightning

Established in 2016, Sunshine Coast Lightning is part-owned by NRL Club, Melbourne Storm. 

The combination of a community which is committed to sport and major events, a renowned academic institution focused on elite sporting performance and one of Australia’s leading professional sporting organisations, helped Sunshine Coast Lightning become the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball champions in 2017.

The team went back-to-back with a premiership win in 2018 and made a third consecutive grand final in 2019.

The side hasn’t reached the same heights in the years since but with talent from end-to-end, including a couple of huge recruits in 2024, the Lightning are on the rise.
