Midcourter Maddy Proud says while the NSW Swifts have had some positive hit outs in Suncorp Super Netball this season, it is consistency that the group are lacking.
Speaking exclusively on the Suncorp Super Netball Show (available to stream on Telstra TV and the Netball Live app), Proud said ‘brain fades’ have cost them.
“I think it’s consistency (that is missing) for us,” Proud said.
“We’ve had too many patches where we do go missing and instead of being a thirty second block, it ends up being a couple of minutes.
“We just need to try and eliminate how long those little bursts of brain fades go for.”
Ineligible for finals contention, an unfamiliar scene for the Swifts who contested the two most recent Trans-Tasman Netball League Grand Finals, Proud says the focus of the last two games will be on building for next season.
“All along Rob’s vision for this team has been for the future. It is ‘a project’ as he has called us,” Proud explained.
“With these last two games, we go out there to wanting to win, it’s essentially our Grand Final for us.
“We want to finish our season in a really good position and put us in the best spot heading into next year.”
The Swifts have the potential to create havoc in the top four, facing Sunshine Coast Lightning this weekend and long-time rivals the Queensland Firebirds in Round 14.
Lightning are pushing for a top two finish, although an upset from the Swifts could throw a spanner in the works.
“Every team that is playing us over these last two weeks should be afraid,” Proud laughed.
“The Lightning are in good form and heading into finals they’re going to want to put out a really good performance. We know how good of a team they are, they’ve got superstars all over the court.
“We’ve just got to make sure we go out there and play our own game and really focus on that consistency and make sure we really give it to them.”
