The 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season will begin in April, to coincide with the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
The later start will allow for an uninterrupted Suncorp Super Netball season with the Commonwealth Games scheduled from 4-15 April 2018.
The contracting period for the 2018 season will commence on Monday 19 June. Over the past seven weeks, clubs have had an exclusive right to sign any of their existing 10 contracted athletes, permanent or temporary replacement players or training partners, as one of their 10 contacted players for the 2018 season.
During the three-week contracting period, clubs will be able to sign any player not formally contracted to a team as one of their 10 players. Clubs will be required to finalise their lists of 10 by Monday 10 July 2017.
At the completion of the official contract signing period, clubs will have the ability to sign nominated athletes and training partners. A nominated athlete, or ‘protected training partner’ is a training partner who can only be utilised as a temporary replacement player for their nominated club. However, they are available to become a permanent replacement player of any other Suncorp Super Netball club.
The payment pool for the 2018 season will remain the same as the 2017 team, under the two-year collective bargaining agreement announced prior to the inaugural season. Each club will have up to $500,000 in Total Player Payments, plus up to $150,000 for bona fide employment, education and/or ambassador roles.
