Thunderbirds v Magpies showdown at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre

For the first time since 2013, the Adelaide Thunderbirds will return to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the club’s round 10 blockbuster game against the Collingwood Magpies.

The game on Sunday 8 July 2018, against the star-studded Magpies, will mark the first-time former captain Erin Bell returns to Adelaide since moving to the Melbourne-based Magpies, and with the Adelaide Entertainment Centre boasting a seating capacity of 8,500 – triple that of Priceline Stadium-  it’s going to be the biggest game of the season.

Adelaide Thunderbirds head coach Dan Ryan, who has fond memories of Adelaide Entertainment Centre as an assistant coach at the club’s 2013 grand final, said the announcement is exciting for players, coaches and fans.

“It’s going to be so exhilarating playing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre again – it’s a pretty special and iconic venue for our club,” he said.

“The opportunity to play in front of thousands of supporters will be amazing for our athletes. It’s not something you get to do every day so I’m sure they’ll embrace every moment.

“It’s going to be a blockbuster game against the Magpies. What a spectacle for the fans too; there will be some serious local, national and international talent on display.”

Netball SA CEO Ben Scales said locking in the round 10 match at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre is a major coup for Adelaide Thunderbirds supporters and netball in South Australia.

“The Adelaide Entertainment Centre has proven to be a great venue to view elite netball, with international matches and ANZ Championship grand finals previously played there,” he said.

He said the venue will offer a memorable and exciting match day experience for Adelaide Thunderbirds supporters with its proximity to the city and public transport, and on-site parking. The Adelaide Thunderbirds Fan Village and game-day activations are also set to be enhanced, and match-sponsor Mazda will give away a vehicle.

The round 10 match will be the first time the Adelaide Thunderbirds play at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre since 2013 when the club defeated the Queensland Firebirds to claim the ANZ Championship premiership.
