The Queensland Firebirds busy week of player movement continues today, with the club announcing that star midcourter Mahalia Cassidy will be signing with another club for the 2021 season.
The news brings to a close Cassidy’s six year tenure with the Firebirds, having debuted in the premiership winning 2015 season.
Queensland Firebirds’ High Performance Director, Jeremy Hickmans, thanked Cassidy for her service to the Club.
“We are certainly disappointed to see Mahalia go but understand her desire to seek a new challenge at this stage of her career,” Hickmans said.
“She’s an incredibly resilient athlete, as evidenced by the manner of her comebacks from two serious knee injuries, and her form this season is testament to her hard work and commitment.”
“Most importantly, she’s been a fiercely loyal and selfless teammate and will always be welcome at our Club.”
“We are proud of all Mahalia has achieved as a Firebird and wish her every success in the future.”
Cassidy also expressed her thanks to the Queensland Firebirds fans.
“I am excited about what 2021 will bring but I want to thank the Queensland Firebirds, Netball Queensland and also the fans for the endless amount of support over the past five years."
The news follows announcements that former Collingwood Magpies midcourter Kim Ravaillion will return to the Firebirds in 2021, defenders Kim Jenner, Tara Hinchliffe and Rudi Ellis have been re-signed, Romelda Aiken, Gretal Bueta and Tippah Dwan will be returning to the club next season and that Ine-Mari Venter will be pursuing playing opportunities overseas.
Earlier this week, the league confirmed that the player signing period will kick-off this Monday 19 October and run until 16 November.
