The Adelaide Thunderbirds have announced that they will not be re-signing veteran defender Kate Shimmin for the 2021 season,
After almost a decade at the Thunderbirds, the club made the decision not to offer the defender a contract for 2021.
Shimmin made her debut for the club in the ANZ Championship in 2011, was a part of the Adelaide side that won the 2013 Premiership and was named club champion after the 2018 Super Netball season.
Adelaide Thunderbirds’ High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said the club wished Shimmin all the best for the future.
“Kate has given so much to this club and has been an incredibly valuable member of the team for many years now,” Bourdon said.
“While we can appreciate this decision will be disappointing for our fans as we know how loved Kate is, this is part of our strategy to rejuvenate the Thunderbirds list in our pursuit for future success.
“We cannot thank Kate enough for her hard work over the years and we know she’ll be incredibly missed by our fanbase and everyone at the club.”
It's been a busy start to the player signing period for the Adelaide Thunderbirds, who yesterday announced that Lenize Potgieter, Sam Gooden and Georgie Horjus had re-committed to the club after shooter Sasha Glasgow and midcourter Chelsea Pitman confirmed they would not be with the club in 2021.
