The league has confirmed, in partnership with the Queensland Government, that two matches between Rounds 10-14 of the 2020 season will be played in Far North Queensland.
The league has committed to playing one match each in Cairns and Townsville, with the details of these matches, including which teams will be involved, to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Suncorp Super Netball CEO Chris Symington said the league is thrilled to be bringing matches to Cairns and Townsville for the first time.
“We know there are lots of Suncorp Super Netball fans right throughout North Queensland so we’re excited that the 2020 season has provided the opportunity to bring games to the region,” he said.
“The league thanks the Queensland Government, Cairns Regional Council and Townsville City Council for their ongoing support of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season. We also thank our Principal Partner Suncorp and other commercial partners who have ensured Suncorp Super Netball continues to thrive and extend beyond the competition’s current footprint.
“We look forward to confirming the details of these matches and associated community activity in the very near future.”
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland had become the home of sport.
“Queenslanders have done a great job responding to this health crisis, and that’s why we’re able to focus on our economic recovery and create jobs,” the Premier said.
“Netball is a great game and this is great news for Cairns and Townsville. If you get the chance you should definitely go and see the game.”
All matches will be broadcast live on Nine, Telstra TV and the Netball Live Official App.
