Ashlee Unie made her debut with the Sunshine Coast Lightning in 2020 but the physiotherapist's career hit pause when she ruptured her ACL in a practice match at the beginning of 2021.​

The resilient defender worked her way back from injury and has been rewarded with a contract at the Firebirds. ​
