The past two seasons were incredibly challenging for our competition, and the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant financial impact on the League and its teams. A funding investment is crucial to protect the future growth of our sport.

The Western Australian Government will provide support for netball from the grassroots level to the elite, with the Australian Diamonds also to hold their pre-Commonwealth Games training camp in Perth in July. Western Australia has a fantastic track record of hosting world-class sporting events.

The process was confidential so we cannot share this information. However, we were really pleased several states expressed interest in hosting the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final. We are incredibly thankful for the Western Australian Government’s support to host the 2022 Grand Final in Perth.

We are thankful for the Western Australian Government’s investment in our sport. We can’t disclose the figure, but it will have a significant impact on netball from grassroots right through to Super Netball and the Diamonds.

The League conducted a feasibility study earlier this year. We received significant interest, with incredible financial investments for our sport. In a perfect world we would have been able to announce this prior to the season and will commit to doing so for future seasons.

As part of the new fixed venue format the League has announced, the Grand Final will be held in a different location each year. Netball Australia has not committed to any specific type of rotation or multi-year commitment.

Netball Australia is in a difficult financial position and we have made this decision in the best interest of the sport.

We reported a $4.4 million loss for the 2021 season, and have bank loans at just under $4 million. We need to be innovative and secure funding investments that help to protect the future of our sport.

The League has moved to the Grand Final from Saturday 2 July to Sunday 3 July at 5:00pm AWST / 7:00pm AEST. We want to give fans the best possible opportunity to attend and watch the Grand Final – whether that is at RAC Arena or on Fox Sports, available through Foxtel and Kayo Freebies.

As part of the announcement, we are committing to awarding prize money to both the premier ($100,000) and the runner-up ($25,000) each year. This is significant for our teams, who have faced incredible financial hardship throughout the pandemic but also helps to recognise the achievement of reaching and winning the Premiership.

Our competition wouldn’t exist without our fans, and we know that this announcement will be disappointing for many of you. In a perfect world we would have had more time. Going forward, the Grand Final venue will be announced ahead of each season with the fixture announcement.

We’ll be announcing ticket on sale dates shortly, including information on priority access for the netball community.

You can sign up to Netball Nation (https://confirmsubscription.com/h/j/34CECE0520E83931) to be kept up to date.

The teams, ANPA and partners are supportive of the strategy for a rotating fixed venue. In a perfect world we would have had more time to consult the netball industry. We understand the netball community is disappointed by the timing of this announcement, however we had to move quickly to secure this crucial funding investment for the sport.
