Cassidy impressed throughout the 2020 season for the Firebirds and was named in the Origin Diamonds Development Squad for the first time earlier this month. She has made a name for herself wearing the centre bib and is comfortable at wing attack.
“When a new opportunity and challenge presented itself at Lightning, I was incredibly excited to sign on with the club ahead of 2021,” Cassidy said.
“Lightning is a consistently competitive side in the Suncorp Super Netball league and I’m eager to do whatever I can to contribute to the team, both on and off court.”
Head Coach Kylee Byrne was thrilled to announce this new team addition, known for her speed and accurate feeds.
“Mahalia is such an exciting player to watch and she is impressive and creative in attack but can also hold her own defensively,” Byrne said.
“Moreover, I believe she will fit in really well with the group and the wider Lightning environment and she provides another versatile, explosive option through our midcourt.”
Cassidy will likely take over wearing the centre bib following the recent retirement of midcourt legend Laura Langman.
