Netball Australia has approved and endorsed changes to the Suncorp Super Netball Rules of the Game and the Awards Policy.
The below changes will come into effect for the upcoming season.
SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL RULES OF THE GAME
- All Suncorp Super Netball teams and umpires have been briefed that players must return the ball without delay or interference for the next centre pass post the scoring of a goal. Game management protocols will be used by umpires, should they be required.
- The mobile device policy was first introduced in 2022 to safeguard participants from increasing risks of corruption in Suncorp Super Netball. As part of this policy, in 2023 teams will be permitted to communicate between the performance analyst and the team bench by a secured frequency channel with approval of the league.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
The Suncorp Super Netball League will be operating under Netball Australia’s COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Illness Safe Practice Guidelines for the 2023 season. These guidelines focus on the use of sensible hygiene measure to reduce the risk of transmission of all illnesses.
As per the 2022 season, teams can replace an athlete from the supplementary player list if they are impacted by COVID-19 prior to a match.
Nominated athletes are not permitted to play as temporary replacement players for other teams in 2023.
AWARDS POLICY
Changes to the voting system for the Suncorp Super Netball Player of the Year and the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year will also take place for the 2023 season.
In 2023, votes will be collected on a 3-2-1 basis from the Independent Voting Panel comprising of three people for each match. The Independent Voting Panel for each match will be confidential, however may include a maximum of one representative in each of the following categories: media, past player, high performance coach/selector, past umpire for each match.
The Rules of the Game Committee considered the current voting system and feedback from players and coaches, as well as other voting systems of major sporting codes.
