Sunshine Coast Lightning foundation player Laura Scherian has recommitted to the club for a sixth year, as the club announces her re-signing today.
The prolific midcourter has been instrumental in each of Lightning’s 80 games, rotating through Wing Attack and Centre.
Scherian has made a name for herself as being amongst the hardest attacking midcourters to shutdown and is one of the league's most prolific feeds, assists and centre pass receives getters. She surpassed 1000 Super Netball goal assists in her time in the SSN competition in 2021, and is poised to overtake 2000 feeds early next season.
Head Coach Kylee Byrne said a return to career best form in 2021 will only further motivate the 33-year-old to excel in 2022.
“Shez in the type of player that makes netball look easy, but her sheer work rate, pinpoint feeds and the influence she has on games cannot be ignored,” Byrne said.
“One of Lightning’s mottos is above and beyond and that perfectly represents Shez – both in her netball and as a person – and we are very lucky to have her at our Club.”
The decision to remain at Lightning was an easy one, according to Scherian.
“This Club is my family and the Sunshine Coast has really become my home and I couldn’t picture myself playing anywhere else,” Scherian said.
“'I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Lightning for 2022 and really excited to play my role in this next chapter.”
