The Suncorp Super Netball Commission structure is complete with the announcement of its most recent and final appointment of Michael Thomson.
Thomson was elected to the Commission earlier this month and brings an impressive combination of legal, commercial and sports administration experience to the role having been in leadership positions within sporting bodies across the globe for more than 18 years.
Now the Head of Aviation within the Canberra Airport Group, Thomson’s extensive resume includes tenures with FIFA, Football Federation Australia, Nike, Australian Sports Commission, Australian Rugby Union and the Brumbies Rugby Union club.
An avid sports fan, Thomson said he is honoured to be joining the Commission of the world’s premier netball competition and excited to be a part of the future trajectory of the league.
“As we all just saw at the Netball World Cup, world netball is growing rapidly and we’re fortunate to have the globe’s best netball players here within the Suncorp Super Netball league. It’s an absolute honour to be joining the Commission at such an exciting time for the Suncorp Super Netball league and the sport,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to working with my fellow commissioners to help take the Suncorp Super Netball league to the next level.”
Suncorp Super Netball Chair Marina Go said she is thrilled to have someone of Thomson’s calibre round out the Commission.
“Michael’s experience spans across a wide variety of roles and sporting organisations so we’re excited to welcome him as part of the group that will play the lead role in driving our league towards our vision of becoming the world’s number one sporting league for women,” she said.
“With the Commission structure now complete, I look forward to working closely with the group to ensure the competition continues its advancement in what is an increasingly competitive sport entertainment landscape.”
The Commission will meet this month to discuss the short and long-term strategic direction of the League
