The 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and two-time Suncorp Super Netball championship winner has joined Magpies Netball for the next two seasons.
Mentor’s arrival at the Holden Centre means that seven of the 10 positions on the team for 2019 have been settled.
Earlier this week, Collingwood announced that Madi Robinson, Kim Ravaillion, Ash Brazill and Matilda Garrett had re-committed, with Jamaican shooter Shimona Nelson and new Diamond mid-courter Kelsey Browne also joining the team of new coach Rob Wright.
Mentor’s record, since winning English national team selection in 2000 as a 16 year-old, is one of incredible and sustained success.
Her honour roll includes ANZ Championships with Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Vixens, two SSN championships with Sunshine Coast Lightning, an SSN player of the year award in 2017, SSN goal keeper of the year awards in 2017 and 2018, Commonwealth Games gold in 2018, Commonwealth bronze in 2006 and 2010 and two world championship bronze medals.
Mentor is currently in camp with the English Roses, preparing for the imminent Quad Series that will held in Australia and New Zealand.
General Manager of Magpies Netball, Jennifer McIntyre, described Mentor’s decision to join Collingwood as a coup.
“Geva is one of the superstars of our sport,” McIntyre said.
“She is an amazing athlete, a wonderful player, an uncompromising competitor, a leader and someone who makes her team-mates better.
“Geva has been a fan favorite and a winner wherever she has played. I’m sure Magpie fans are going to enjoy seeing her in a black and white dress.”
