The Queensland Firebirds busy week of roster moves continue today, with club confirming that Gretel Bueta, Romelda Aiken and Tippah Dwan have all re-signed with the club for the 2021 season.
Unfortunately, the Firebirds also confirmed that South African shooter Ine-Mari Venter will be leaving the club to explore playing opportunities overseas.
The news means we will have the opportunity to see how the highest scoring tandem in the league in 2020, Aiken and Dwan, will operate with team Vice-Captain and reigning Liz Ellis Diamond winner Bueta next season.
Queensland Firebirds’ High Performance Director, Jeremy Hickmans, believes the attacking trio have the potential to make a significant impact on the competition.
“Romelda again proved she’s amongst the world’s best shooters with her resurgent form this year, while Tippah produced one of the most impressive debut seasons we’ve seen across the league in recent memory,” Hickmans said.
“When you can then welcome a player of Gretel’s calibre back into that mix, you’re looking at one of the most proficient and versatile shooting circles in the competition.”
“We are really excited by the depth of attacking options this group provides and know all three players will have our Purple Family on their feet in season 2021.”
Hickmans also wished Venter every success in her career going forward.
“Ine has continued to impress everybody at the Club, both as a player and a person, from the moment she set foot in the door and she should be very proud of the contribution she has made to our group,” Hickmans said.
“While she will certainly be missed, we know it’s important in the context of her international playing career that she continue to challenge herself at the highest level, and we wish her nothing but success in the next phase of her career.”
Bueta, Aiken and Dwan join defenders Kim Jenner, Tara Hinchliffe and Rudi Ellis, as well as midcourter Kim Ravaillion as committed players for the Queensland Firebirds in the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season.
