GIANTS Goal Shooter Caitlin Bassett will miss this month’s Suncorp Team Girls Cup after suffering a left knee injury against the West Coast Fever in Kalgoorlie.
Bassett will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after rupturing her Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) on Saturday but is expected to be available during the first half of the Suncorp Super Netball season.
Bassett slipped on the court during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game with the incident forcing the Diamonds captain to sit out the rest of the game.
GIANTS Coach Julie Fitzgerald said the star shooter doesn’t require surgery.
“While we’re all disappointed that Caitlin will miss a chunk of our pre-season, this injury could have been a lot worse so we’re grateful that she’s expected back for the majority of the season.
“Caitlin is a huge asset to our team but this untimely injury will give an opportunity for some of our young players to step up in the coming weeks.
“I know all GIANTS fans are looking forward to seeing Caitlin back on the court in the not too distant future.“
GIANTS Netball would like to acknowledge the West Coast Fever for their professionalism in helping Bassett and the GIANTS receive the best possible medical care in WA over the weekend.
