Bruce becomes the first West Australian to lead Fever, and is a product of the Netball WA athlete pathway.
Having started her netball journey at Southern Districts Netball Association, Bruce represented the State at 17/U, 19/U and 21/U level, and was rewarded for her outstanding performances in the inaugural season of Suncorp Super Netball with a Samsung Diamonds debut last year.
It’s the first leadership positions for all three athletes at the club, and Bruce said she was privileged to lead Fever.
“I am a proud product of the West Australian netball pathway, and to be able to lead the club that gave me my first opportunity is incredible,” Bruce said.
“I love this club and it’s a huge honour to be able to lead this amazing bunch of girls.”
“I will work closely with Stacey (Francis), Shannon and Stacey (Marinkovich) to keep empowering the rest of the girls to keep leading in their own unique ways.”
The trio were elected following a confidential player vote to elect the leadership group, with Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich confident Bruce would guide the club in the best possible direction.
“These three athletes have shown and continue to epitomise the direction of the club both on and off the court,” Marinkovich said.
“The role of the West Coast Fever leadership group is important, not only in driving the club forward, but also empowering the athletes and staff around them to be the best they can be, and I am confident this group can find the balance in this philosophy.”
“To have our first West Australian captain as someone who came through the Netball WA pathway is exciting, and to see Courtney’s development, not only performance wise, but also as a person, rewarded by her team mates and the club is fantastic.”
The 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season is just over a month away, with Fever set to travel to Adelaide to face the Thunderbirds on 29 April.
The club’s first home game will be a Saturday night blockbuster on 5 May, when Fever host Magpies Netball at Perth Arena.
