One of the most exciting young talents in the sport, Sophie Dwyer, has committed to the the GIANTS until at least the end of the 2023 season.
After making her debut as an extended squad member during the 2020 season while still a training partner with the club, Dwyer was key to the GIANTS' 2021 Premiership run, taking over the starting GA spot after Kiera Austin went down with a knee injury in Round 1 of the 2021 season.
The 19-year-old shooter, who signed her first full-time contract with the side ahead of the 2021 season. finished the season with 389 goals, 52 Super Shots, 139 goal assists and 772 Nissan Net Points (the third highest of any GIANT).
After stepping into the goal attack position in the second quarter of round one this season, she hasn’t looked backed.
Dwyer approached the remaining 16 games of the season with poise and confidence beyond her years and was a breakout star of the 2021 season.
Dwyer said she is thrilled to sign with the GIANTS for another two seasons.
“We are building something really special at this club and I’m grateful and excited to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get back out on court again next year,” she said.
“I learned a lot from the 2021 season, and I can’t wait to continue developing my game over the next couple of years.
“It’s any young netballer’s dream to play at the elite level and to do it with the GIANTS is extra special.”
Dwyer is the third GIANT to sign a two-year deal, the maximum currently allowed based on the league’s new licensing and contract deal.
