The 2021 West Coast Fever squad is beginning to take shape, with the club announcing that Alice Teague-Neeld, Stacey Francis, Olivia Lewis, Sunday Aryang and Emma Cosh have all been re-signed until the end of next season.
West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich said it was important to continue to develop her young squad while maintaining the stalwarts of the club.
“Stacey Francis is a great defender and continues to push her teammates to be the best and I’m really excited to see what she can do on court with Fever again next year,” she said.
“The depth of our squad is really important, especially in the season we have just played in. Alice continues to develop her game and partner with Jhaniele really well.”
“As a product of the WA player pathway Olivia is an important part of our defensive structure and her game continues to improve. She performed against some of the best shooters in the League and I’m excited to be part of her continued growth into the future.”
Both Aryang and Cosh travelled to Queensland with the team as part of the 12-player extended squad for the season and gained valuable game-day experience, with Cosh debuting for Fever in Round 9 and securing a place in the starting seven ever since.
“Our players have made a huge sacrifice this season, by being away from home for an extended period of time,” Marinkovich said.
“For Sunday and Emma to have given up their commitments in Perth to travel to Queensland without being guaranteed a game showed their commitment to the team and the sport."
"They have both grown as players and have had some standout performances and I cannot wait to see them develop to their full potential.”
Unfortunately, the club also announced that defender Shannon Eagland and midcourter Ingrid Colyer, who suffered an ACL injury during the 2020 season and has been ruled out of the 2021 season, have not been offered new contracts.
Marinkovich thanked both players for their service to the Club.
“Shannon and Ingrid are two fantastic netballers, but more importantly, two incredible people,” Marinkovich said.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have had their services, and our Club is better for having had them as part of it.”
“We’re very fortunate to have had Ingrid, Shannon and their families as part of the Fever Family, and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for the Club.”
Aryang, Cosh, Francis, Lewis and Teague-Neeld join 2021 signed players Captain Courtney Bruce, Jhaniele Fowler, Verity Charles and Jess Anstiss.
