The Sunshine Coast Lightning have announced the re-signing of five of their current squad for the 2020, though question marks remain over some of the team's biggest stars.
Diamonds goal attack Steph Wood, premiership midcourter Laura Scherian, rising goal shooter Cara Koenen, international star Peace Proscovia and goal keeper Annika Lee-Jones will all be at the Lightning in 2020 after inking new deals.
But midcourt veteran and Silver Fern Laura Langman, gun goal defence Karla Pretorius, wing defences Madeleine McAuliffe and Jacqui Russell and 2019 defensive recruit Phumza Maweni are yet to put pen to paper, among 30 players league-wide who are currently uncontracted for next year.
Wood, Scherian and Koenen were all foundation players at the Lightning, while Proscovia has been a revelation in her first season of Super Netball.
In a statement, the Lightning said it expects to announce further re-signings in the coming days.
Coach Noeline Taurua said it was particularly exciting to secure the services of the Lightning's three current goalers.
“The strength of our shooting unit this year has been our ability to have a moving circle, a stationery holder or a tall circle - that versatility has been a great weapon for our team so far," she said.
“Five players re-committing to Lightning next season is exciting for the club and bodes well for our vision going forward."
“Having this group of high calibre individuals locked in is a strong endorsement of our program and the culture that we have worked hard to establish these past three years."
