Australian Diamonds shooter Sophie Garbin will don Collingwood’s black and white stripes in 2022, after signing a two-year deal with the club.
Garbin’s signature was joined by Collingwood training partner, Maggie Lind who has been elevated to the club’s senior list for the 2022 season.
A dual premiership player, Garbin arrives at the Holden Centre after four successful seasons with the NSW Swifts.
The 24-year-old’s talent was identified early in her career with the goaler taking out the MVP award in her Super Netball debut in round one, 2018.
Hailing from Kambalda in Western Australia, Garbin went on to make 49 appearances for the Swifts and was a pivotal member of the side’s premiership victories in 2019 and 2021.
During the 2021 season she answered for a total of 152 goals at 88 percent efficiency across her 15 games.
The 184cm goaler has also made a name for herself on the international stage as a member of the Australian Fast5 team that won Bronze in 2018. Following her selection on the 2019 Australian Diamonds Development Squad, Garbin was elevated to the senior squad for the 2021 Constellation Cup.
After impressing Magpie recruiters throughout her time with the Pies, Maggie Lind has been rewarded with a contract to the senior side.
The midcourter was a member of Collingwood’s 2019 Super Club championship side before signing on as a training partner in 2021. She made two appearances for the Pies this season including her Super Netball debut in round two against the Giants.
Spending the last 10 years with VNL side, the City West Falcons, Lind has established herself as a competitive wing-attack and is known for her strength from the circle’s edge.
Collingwood head coach Nicole Richardson said the team is delighted to have Garbin and Lind on board.
“We’re so excited both for Sophie and Maggie,” Richardson said.
“It’s been fantastic to see Soph’s confidence grow over the last few seasons and we think she’ll be a really strong asset for us under the ring. With the success she’s had with the Swifts and the Diamonds, we can’t wait to see her rise to this new opportunity.
“Maggie’s call up is a huge credit to her constant effort and commitment. We’re looking forward to seeing where she can take her game at the next level.”
