Jacqui Russell has re-committed to Sunshine Coast Lightning ahead of season 2020, with the Club officially retaining nine of its current 10-athlete squad so far.
Re-signing two-time ‘Team Spirit Award’ recipient Jacqui Russell for next season is a boost to the Club’s midcourt stocks.
The 31-year-old, who predominantly plays at Wing Defence, has repeatedly shown just how relentless she is one-on-one, as well as her attacking drive.
Off court, Russell is highly regarded around the Club for her extremely high work rate and infectious enthusiasm.
“I’m really happy to be back with Lightning for 2020,” Russel said.
“I feel like I’ve learnt a lot in the last two seasons with the Club, not just from Noels and Kylee, but also from my teammates and our support staff.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do as a team next season and how the Club evolves with Kylee at the helm.”
Lightning’s 2020 Head Coach Kylee Byrne believes Russell will benefit from the foundations built in recent seasons and is excited to see how that translates on court in 2020.
“With another strong pre-season and the knowledge learnt from the past two seasons, Jac is a huge asset to Lightning and we are so happy she is staying with us,” Byrne said.
“There is something very special about Jac and her influence on others and her positive contribution to the team is exactly what we want here at our Club.”
Russell joins fellow defenders Maddy McAuliffe, Phumza Maweni and Karla Pretorius in recommitting to the Club in 2020 in recent weeks.
