New Zealand netball superstar Laura Langman has been announced as captain of the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) All-Stars team that will face the Origin Australian Diamonds for bushfire relief at Qudos Bank Arena this Sunday 1 March.
Langman will lead the star-studded team into what is bound to be an epic showdown to raise money for communities affected by bushfires across Australia.
The Sunshine Coast Lightning midcourter will line up alongside the likes of West Coast Fever shooting sensation Jhaniele Fowler, Lightning teammate and defensive extraordinaire Karla Pretorius and Collingwood Magpies veteran Geva Mentor.
Langman is looking forward to playing with and against the world’s best for a great cause.
“It’s an honour to be involved in this incredible event and I am honestly humbled to be nominated captain of the All-Stars,” Langman said.
“It has been special to watch the netball community rally together to help those affected by the bushfires and I jumped at the chance to put my hand up for selection.
“While the game serves a much greater purpose than just netball, when we get out on court, I anticipate a hard-fought battle between the Diamonds and our All-Stars team, in what will be a great spectacle for netball fans.”
The showdown will be broadcast live in all Australian states and territories on Channel 9 at 1.00pm AEDT and streamed live on the Netball Live Official App.
Tickets for Australian Diamonds vs SSN All-Stars start from $20 and are available via Ticketek.
All funds raised through Netball Australia’s initiatives will be donated to a Natural Disaster Relief Fund which has been established through the Confident Girls Foundation with the purpose of supporting netball-specific bushfire relief and recovery projects.
Sunday’s match will be the final time that Lisa Alexander will coach the Diamonds after eight years at the helm.
