In partnership with the Western Australian Government, the 2022 Grand Final will be held at Perth’s RAC Arena on Sunday 3 July at 5:00pm AWST/7:00pm AEST.
For the first time in Suncorp Super Netball history, $100,000 in prize money is up for grabs for the premier, and $25,000 for the runner-up.
Under the new format, the League will predetermine the Grand Final venue ahead of each season, with the announcement to be released with the fixture.
The League has shifted this year’s Grand Final from Saturday 2 July to Sunday 3 July to maximise attendance in the stands and viewership at home.
Through the partnership, the Western Australian Government will provide support for netball from the grassroots level to the elite, with the Australian Diamonds also to hold their pre-Commonwealth Games training camp in Perth in July.
Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan said the introduction of the host venue format will allow Netball Australia to deliver the best possible Grand Final experience.
“Western Australia has a fantastic track record hosting major sporting events, and we are delighted to be bringing the 2022 Grand Final to Perth,” Ryan said.
“Having a fixed venue each year will deliver a better overall event experience by maximising attendance in the stands at the Grand Final, and by boosting viewership of the match through Foxtel and Kayo Freebies, for fans around the country.
“For the first time in the history of the Suncorp Super Netball League, prize money will provide a significant financial boost to both Grand Final teams. This will allow the teams to invest in growth and engagement activities across the broader community.
“Netball Australia would like to thank the WA Government for their support of the 2022 Grand Final and their commitment to growing the sport in their State.
“We will do everything necessary to ensure our sport remains strong for every level of the community across the country.
“We understand the netball community is disappointed by the timing of this announcement. We had to move quickly to secure this funding investment for our sport.”
