GIANTS Netball wing defence Amy Parmenter has been named the Suncorp Super Netball Rebel Rising Star for the 2019 season at the Australian Netball Awards in Sydney.
Parmenter, who had spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as a training partner with the team, slotted into the GIANTS starting midcourt seamlessly, allowing Jamie-Lee Price to move into her more natural centre position.
The 23-year-old Sydney native immediately established herself as a wing defence who could shut down her opposition and swing a game, leading all midcourters with 25 interceptions in 2019.
She was twice named the Nissan Player of the Match, the first time in a dominant display against the Magpies in Round 3 where she shut down red hot wing attack Kelsey Browne and for a second time against the Thunderbirds in Round 6.
The future is incredibly bright for Parmenter who recently re-signed with the GIANTS until the end of the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season.
She’ll also look to take on an even bigger role in the GIANTS midcourt alongside teammate Jamie-Lee Price, after team captain and midcourt general Kim Green retired at the conclusion of the 2019 season.
She also took a big step towards realising her dream to play for the Australian Diamonds when she was signed to the newly established Diamonds Development Squad, giving her the opportunity to train with the national team and play more international level netball.
Parmenter and the GIANTS will be back in action in 2020 against the Thunderbirds on May 3 at Priceline Stadium in Adelaide.
