Game talking points:
Fever keep finding ways to pick up wins and have recovered well after their 14 goal defeat to the Melbourne Vixens a few rounds ago. They face a Firebirds team that will be on a massive high after comfortably beating a strong Giants Netball last weekend. The Fever will need to bring their glittering best if they want to avoid a second Firebirds’ defeat of the season.
The Firebirds have had a real tough run of fixtures, but will be happy that they are getting through them and still remaining in the top four. After this weekend’s game, they face the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Collingwood Magpies at home, two matches that they will expect to win given their place in the Rebel Sport ladder.
If Fever want to win…
Fever have a couple of tough games against two of their nearest challengers coming up, but will be confident that home court advantage will pull them through in this weekend’s game and Round 13’s test against the Melbourne Vixens. It also helps when you have a goal scorer putting away an average of 56 goals a game in Jhaniele Fowler.
If Firebirds want to win…
Romelda Aiken and Gretel Tippett continually work well together in the ring, but their defensive pair in Laura Geitz and Tara Hinchliffe have also been crucial to their success. Like every team that comes up against West Coast Fever, in order to win they will need to stop the ball getting into Jhaniele Fowler – because once the ball is in the air she is difficult to stop.
Key match ups:
Who will win the scoring battle between the two shooters, Jhaniele Fowler and Romelda Aiken? Laura Geitz comes into this game on incredible form for the Firebirds and if anyone can stop Fowler from another goal fest, it is Geitz. She has heaps of experience and will need to use her entire arsenal of talent on the weekend to keep the Fever scoring down.
