The Melbourne Vixens have displayed a never-say-die attitude early in their Suncorp Super Netball campaign, with two narrow wins to show for it over Collingwood Magpies and the NSW Swifts. They will come up against a Queensland side that fired in round two, overcoming defending champions, Sunshine Coast Lightning, in an intense battle in Brisbane. The Firebirds will hope that Laura Geitz is available for selection this weekend, after missing round two with a back complaint. The Vixens will keep a close eye on Diamond defender, Jo Weston, to see if she recovers from an ankle injury picked up against the Swifts on the weekend.

Amazingly, the defending champions are winless so far in their second SSN season. They have suffered tight losses against the GIANTS and the Firebirds, and the job doesn’t get any easier here. West Coast Fever have notched up two dominant wins to open their campaign, with Jhaniele Fowler being close to unstoppable in the goal circle. Both Adelaide Thunderbirds and the Magpies tried to restrict the ball service to Fowler, to no avail. Lightning will need to find a way to stop the amount of ball Fowler sees in this clash, or they face the prospect of starting the season with three losses and no wins.
COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES V ADELAIDE THUNDERBIRDS

It has been a tough start to the season for both clubs and they will battle hard for a much-needed victory here. Adelaide have been tinkering with their rotations and combinations with a new look roster but have suffered heavy losses to the Fever and GIANTS in the process. The Magpies competed hard against the Vixens in round one before they were beaten soundly by Fever in round two. This match is a golden chance for one of these sides to kick start their season.

The NSW derby promises to attract a bumper crowd and there will be plenty of feeling in this one between the new rivals. The Swifts will be stinging to hit the court after they let victory slip through their fingers against the Vixens last week. But the Swifts showed plenty of character in round one to reel in an eight-point deficit against the Firebirds. The GIANTS are humming along well with wins over the Lightning and Adelaide but face a stern test here as all derby games bring out the best in teams in the Suncorp Super Netball competition.
