The two foundation players have been influential in Lightning’s four seasons in the Suncorp Super Netball league.
Scherian said she was proud to continue playing at Lightning in 2021 and can’t wait to see what the new season has in store.
“The Lightning environment is truly special and the Sunshine Coast has become my home, so I had no hesitation in signing on for next year,” Scherian said.
“I believe there’s so much more that we can achieve as a group and that’s a really exciting prospect.”
In 2020 McAuliffe also impressed when given increased opportunities at centre, providing even more versatility and dimension to the Lightning line-up.
“This season presented a range of challenges but I think it also taught us a lot about ourselves as individuals and as a group and that can only strengthen us going forward,” McAuliffe said.
“I’m proud to enter my fifth year with Lightning and to continue to develop my game under Kylee as coach.”
Head Coach Kylee Byrne said both athletes contribute so much on and off the court.
“Both Maddy and Shez are such important members of our Club and team and there was no hesitation in offering them a Lightning position in 2021. I know both athletes are hungry to improve on our 2020 season and will throw everything into ensuring we are successful next year,” Byrne said.
“It’s not only what they offer on the court but both are exceptional as high-performance athletes off the court. The passion for ensuring our Club has such a community and family approach also made it an easy decision to welcome them back.”
The Sunshine Coast Lightning have now signed five athletes for the 2021 season.
