Sunshine Coast Lightning's Laura Scherian will celebrate her 100th national league game this Sunday when she takes on the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Round 3 of Suncorp Super Netball.
The now 33-year-old debuted at the national level in 2007 with the AIS Canberra Darters in the Commonwealth Trophy, before going on to represent Australia at the World Youth Cup in the Cook Islands in 2009, alongside former Diamonds Caitlin Bassett and Tegan Philip.
After a promising yearlong stint with the Queensland Firebirds in 2010, Scherian found herself unable to secure an ANZ Championship playing contract despite countless approaches to coaches and clubs.
In 2017, with the promise of a reinvigorated national netball league in the form of Suncorp Super Netball, Scherian was offered a lifeline back into elite netball.
Not only would she be entering a new league, but she would also be representing a new club in the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
Now in her sixth year wearing the yellow, navy and purple, Scherian enters 100 national league games as the heart of Lightning’s midcourt.
Regularly topping the league in centre pass receives, the versatile wing attack and centre totaled 232 goal assists and 309 centre pass receives in the 2021 season.
The Lightning foundation player will walk into her milestone match with two Suncorp Super Netball premierships and four Australian Diamonds test caps to her name.
Sunshine Coast Lightning will battle it out against Adelaide Thunderbirds at SA Stadium on Sunday 10 April. Watch from 4.00pm AEST on Fox Sports, through Foxtel, Kayo Sports and Kayo Freebies.
