This season of Suncorp Super Netball has been the biggest yet with a record number of fans flocking to their local stadiums to watch some of the world's best netballers in action.
In 2023, 266,197 fans attended a match during the home and away season - well up from 213,428 the year prior. The figures are up from pre-Covid times when the largest attendance record was set at 235,003 in 2019.
The semi finals across the weekend also attracted record breaking crowds, with a combined 18,905 fans in attendance to mark the largest first weekend of finals in Suncorp Super Netball history.
Meanwhile, crowds were 29 per cent up year on year to Round 12.
In Rounds 11 and 12, there were four matches that had more than 75 percent capacity, three of those were over 90 per cent capacity and two of them cracked 95 per cent capacity.
The Adelaide Thunderbirds changed their arena of choice to accommodate the large numbers. They played off against the Sunshine Coast Lightning at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on the weekend in front of more than 9,000 fans.
The West Coast Fever are leading the way. Not once, but twice this season they have broken their home crowd record at the RAC Arena.
First it was in their Round 12 match up against the Sunshine Coast Lightning, where 10,764 fans packed the venue. The following week they broke their own record again with 11,013 fans attending their match against the GIANTS.
The good news is that it doesn’t look like slowing down. With one round left of the regular season, and the Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final on the horizon, we are preparing for more packed houses.
The final match of Collingwood Netball's tenure is expected to be a full house in Tasmania. The same can be said for the NSW Swifts' upcoming home game against the Thunderbirds, a very important match that is likely to draw a huge crowd.
We might not know which teams will play off in the Grand Final, but regardless John Cain Arena will likely be packed to the rafters.
All tickets in the initial release have sold out excluding the Grand Final lunch.
The final release of tickets to the public will be on Tuesday July 4 at 12pm AEST. This will be the only chance for public (or fans outside the two competing teams’ members) to access grand final tickets.
