There’s no denying the Suncorp Super Netball League is home to the best of the best.
From international superstars to homegrown Aussie talent, the league has it all.
But even in the world’s best netball league, the are some athletes who stand out, even when surrounded by the best.
As we look ahead to 2025 we have taken some time to reflect on the standout athletes from season 2024.
15. Macy Gardner
The Firebirds’ midcourter came into her own in 2024.
Gardner finished the season with 976 Nissan Net Points as she became a commanding presence on court for the Firebirds.
She had the ball on a string in attack feeding the ball into the goal circle 364 times resulting in 211 goal assists.
Gardner’s strongest outing in 2024 was against the Swifts in Round 12.
The 24-year-old thrived with 127 Nissan Net Points, 40 feeds and 22 goal assists in the side’s one-goal victory.
Leading the midcourt charge, Gardner was instrumental as the Firebirds strung together consecutive wins late in the season.
14. Ash Ervin
When Lightning defender Courtney Bruce went down injured, she left big shoes to fill but youngster Ash Ervin was ready for her moment.
Ervin's star has been on the rise for years, making waves through the Australian pathway system before her SSN debut last year.
The young gun's defensive flair impressed week after week as she read her opponent’s next move, Ervin was a key player in the Lightning’s rise to top four.
Finishing the season with 20 intercepts, 81 deflections and 23 rebounds, the defender earned a call up to the Origin Diamonds squad.
One of Ervin's standout performances of the season was in Round 7 against the Firebirds, the defender working hard and collecting 11 gains.
13. Helen Housby
It was a turbulent season for the NSW Swifts but star goaler Helen Housby put the ball up when it mattered most despite the changing faces around her.
Deadly from long-range, the goaler scored a league-high 73 Super Shots throughout 2024.
The 29-year-old's most influential game was at the end of the season as the Swifts fought to avoid the bottom of the ladder.
Housby finished the Swifts Round 14 clash against the GIANTS with 121 Nissan Net Points, six Super Shots and an overall accuracy of 91 per cent.
12. Cara Koenen
The ever-reliable Koenen continued to be a lethal option for the Lightning in the goal circle in 2024.
The sharp shooter slotted 514 goals at 91 per cent accuracy throughout the season with her signature baseline drive allowing her to get free in the goal circle repeatedly.
Koenen was strong against the GIANTS in Round 5, despite the Lightning losing the match in an extra time, Koenen was instrumental in the first four quarters of the game shooting at 96 per cent and earning 100 Nissan Net Points.
11. Shimona Jok
It’s hard to believe at the start of this season Jok wasn’t given a spot in any team’s contracted 10.
Fortunately for Jok she made her way into the Mavericks side as their eleventh player and was elevated into the game day squad throughout the season.
The once overlooked goaler made her mark and earned herself a contract with the Mavs for 2025.
The 25-year-old finished the season with 424 goals shot at 93 per cent during the 12 matches she played.
Her best outing against the Firebirds in Round 6 where she collated 91.5 Nissan Net Points.
And who could forget her stint in the GK bib in Round 3?
