The eight captains gathered in Sydney today on a rooftop netball court with a custom mural-design, reflecting the eight clubs and reinforcing Netball Australia’s commitment to leaving their mark on the grassroots of the game.
Netball Australia Chief Executive Officer Marne Fechner said, “with Telstra TV 2 launching in 2018 and netball moving to the main platform on Nine, we cannot wait to see further innovation and bigger crowds coming to our game.
“We are pleased that our fans have embraced the new product, with more people than ever before attending Suncorp Super Netball games. We will once again build on those…we are really focusing on how we innovate the game, how we move to larger venues and how we increase the entertainment value for our fans.
“The new rules and ladder evolution, whilst they won’t change necessarily what is happening on the court, they will definitely make the strategy of how we play the game a little bit different. The stakes are higher, for people watching it on their screens, experiencing it in stadium or the water-cooler conversations, we hope there is much more talkability in 2018.
“With the recent Commonwealth Games capturing the attention of the world, and a season of Suncorp Super Netball under our belt, it is now netball’s moment,” she said.
Suncorp, the league’s principal partner, was on hand to launch Season 2. Suncorp’s Executive General Manager, Brand & Marketing, Kristi Woolrych said, “last year’s Suncorp Super Netball really elevated netball, and women’s sport more broadly, to new heights both at a professional and local community level.
“We’re excited to see where this year’s competition will take us. We’re also looking forward to continuing our work with Netball Australia to build a nation of confident girls through the Suncorp TeamGirls program.”
Fans will be able to catch every match live on the big screen with two matches on Channel 9 and two matches on Telstra TV (exclusive to Telstra broadband customers). Every match will also be available live via subscription in the official league app, Netball Live.
