The Adelaide Thunderbirds defence of the future is coming together, with the club and key defender Matilda Garrett agreeing to a two-year deal.
The new deal will mean that Garrett will be a Thunderbird until at least the end of the 2023 season.
After coming across from the Collingwood Magpies before the 2020 season, Garrett experienced a breakout year, playing all 14 games after making her Thunderbirds debut in Round One.
Garrett capped off the year with selection in the 2021/22 Australian Development Squad.
Thunderbirds High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said the club had been impressed with Garrett’s first year in Adelaide.
“Matilda slotted into our defensive end with ease and has formed strong combinations across the court,” Bourdon said.
“She is highly respected amongst the playing group and staff and is showing herself to be a natural leader on and off the court."
