Thinking about getting along to this week’s games? Here are some very good reasons why watching SSN this weekend should be a part of your plans!
FOWLER VS LAYTON
Can Jhaniele Fowler be stopped? Already the Jamaican giant is predicting she can go bigger and better than her 66-goal haul against the Thunderbirds, and she presents one enormous headache for Magpies Netball this weekend.
Sharni Layton wasn’t at her best in Round 1 as she eased back into elite competition, but she’ll be better for the hitout and tasked with quelling Fowler’s dominance. Can the former Diamonds captain respond? It’ll be one hell of a battle.

CAN THE SWIFTS BACK IT UP?
Few would have predicted the NSW Swifts to knock off the Queensland Firebirds in Round 1.
But with debutant goaler Sophie Garbin entering the fray in the second half and turning the game on its head, coach Briony Akle now has a genuine selection headache on her hands.
It’s a bigger ask against the Melbourne Vixens on the Vixens’ home court, with Mwai Kumwenda all but unstoppable against the Magpies last weekend, but if the Swifts are the real deal they need to prove it here.

BATTLE AT BOTH ENDS IN QUEENSLAND
Caitlin Bassett vs Laura Geitz at one end and Romelda Aiken vs Geva Mentor at the other end?
Yes please.
Whoever has the better of their respective duel will likely decide the Queensland derby, and with both the Sunshine Coast Lightning and Queensland Firebirds having suffered a loss in Round 1, there’ll be no shortage of feeling and urgency in this one.

THUNDERBIRDS A GENUINE THREAT
The Adelaide Thunderbirds will like their chances against the Giants, despite going down by 18 goals against the West Coast Fever in Round 1.
After all, that scoreline could be something of a false economy, given Jhaniele Fowler’s utter dominance under the post. The T-birds won’t be the only team to be on the receiving end of a Fever thumping this season.
In Round 2 the Thunderbirds won’t have to contend with anything like the threat Fowler posed last weekend, and they did net 56 goals against a defensive end that included Diamonds keeper Courtney Bruce.
Look for them to contend with the top teams far more regularly this season, starting against the Giants at home on Saturday.
