The GIANTS produced a solid Suncorp Super Netball 2022 season after falling short at the final hurdle last year.
This year they managed eight wins but just missed out on the race for premiership glory after narrowly losing to the Melbourne Vixens in a nail-biting preliminary final.
In 2023 they'll aim to go one better and secure the club's first Suncorp Super Netball premiership.
But before we look too far forward, let's revisit the season gone by.
Here’s how the GIANTS 2022 season unfolded.SEASON REFLECTION
The GIANTS had an uplifting start to the season in round 1 with a win over the NSW Swifts who they lost to in the 2021 grand final.
They were then disrupted by Covid-19 and lost their next few matches before returning to the winner’s list in round 5 against the Collingwood Magpies. The GIANTS then went on to win six of their last nine matches before finals.
The GIANTS won by seven goals in their semi final against the Collingwood Magpies with a stellar second half performance securing them the win.
But it was the preliminary final where the GIANTS hearts were shattered.
One step away from the grand final the GIANTS had a battle on their hands against the Melbourne Vixens. The GIANTS led heading into the final quarter, however, the Vixens refused to give up, launching a mammoth fourth quarter comeback and pinching the match.
GIANTS captain Jo Harten stood tall throughout the season shooting 463 of her side’s goals alongside Sophie Dwyer who shot 295. Jamie-Lee Price was strong in the midcourt with 383 feeds.
Amy Parmenter's season saw her named in the 2022-23 Origin Australian Diamonds Squad. GAMECHANGER
Defensive midcourter Amy Parmenter was a standout throughout the season, finding ways to intercept the ball and shut down her opponents. Parmenter ended the year with 24 intercepts, the most of any Suncorp Super Netball midcourt player.
LOOKING FORWARD
The GIANTS have a lot of potential to win the 2023 premiership. They’ve re-signed their entire team for 2023 and should be able to build on their 2022 season. Spearheaded by the strong leadership and sharp shooting of Harten and coach Julie Fitzgerald the GIANTS really could go all the way.
