Game talking points:
Earlier this week, Magpies ace Sharni Layton announced her retirement from all forms of netball at season’s end – so the Collingwood team will want to make sure her career ends in style by nailing the remaining three games.
This needs to be a do-or-die effort from the Swifts team, as they are still out of the top four and are running out of games to try and force their way in.
English Rose Natalie Haythornthwaite has been picked to help out the Swifts for the rest of their campaign and is an extra spice to an already dangerous team.
If Magpies want to win…
The Magpies have the second highest goal scorer in this year’s competition in Caitlin Thwaites – they have also conceded less goals than the Rebel Sport ladder leaders West Coast Fever. It begs the question as to why they are not winning games! They need to work out quickly where things are going wrong and fix the problem if they want to beat a young and energetic Swifts team.
If Swifts want to win…
This is very much a battle between youth and experience, as the Magpies possess an array of highly celebrated international stars. The Swifts will look to keep utilising their bench and the running power of their ten, which has been a particular strong point for them all season. As always, the Swifts will relay on the form of Helen Housby and the support she can offer to Wallace with assists and goals.
Key match ups:
With so many great match ups this week it’s hard to focus on one particular area of the court. If we had to pick one, it would be the Maddy Proud (Swifts) and Ash Brazill (Magpies) head-to-head. Both players are excelling, on and off the court, and their individual dynamic plays during games will be interesting to watch when up against each other.
